So, what happened, now being a 46-year-old man who has lived all over this Country (Ohio, Wisconsin, Oregon, California, and Arizona) plus I have visited every state but Hawaii and Alaska (which is on the bucket list) I have been wondering a lot lately as to what happened. As a kid I never remember the things that go on today. We respected authority, police officers, teachers, we stood for the pledge in the morning and we didn’t riot in the streets when we disagreed. Yes, even then we all didn’t agree with everything our President said and did, but we respected the office none the less. We didn’t try to burn down cities and beat people up because we disagreed with their political views. That is just insanity, we all loved this Country, even her faults, we embraced them and worked together. Sure, there were “hate groups” of course, but most of us were disgusted by them because we were all Americans. Was everything perfect between races, well no but there was not this deep hatred of each other and lack of pride in who you are, no matter what your race is. Almost all your neighbors flew flags outside their houses and stood for the Anthem, not because of their political views but because they were proud of the Country we lived in.
Do you remember hearing about a patriot movement, me either, you know why, because we all woke up every morning in America and even with her faults she was still the best place in the world to wake up. Why because we took pride in everything we did, there was no shame in having a job that you had to get your hands dirty, or such a deep envy of those who put on a suit in the morning instead. We all got together on weekends, had BBQ’s, played football, went to parks together, because we all took pride in the part we did to make this Country what it was. We didn’t care as much about what separated us as much as what brought us together. In school we all had dreams of what we would be when we grew up and knew we could if we wanted to. Not because of privilege or whatever they say it is, but because we knew if you worked hard, studied and lived a good life we could accomplish anything. So, what happened? Is it social media, the news, society, parents, the system, well the short answer is yes. All the above and more importantly its everyone of you reading this including the guy writing it. We let the tarnish go on this great country we live in like that old silver in the cabinet that you never use. We stood by as the trivial things became massive things. When people started saying no or you can’t do that, we believed them. We let this Country become what it is because we forgot who we are and where we come from. We let people spit on the Constitution and the very things that have always made this Country great. We forgot we are “We the People” we are the strongest and largest branch of government. We did and do hold the power to make this Country what it was, not perfect but perfect in her faults. We all have the same rights, privileges, opportunities and chances as Americans, if and only if we get off our butts work hard and remember what makes this the greatest Country in the world. Our forefathers wrote the Constitution a long time ago, it was written for every man and women that is a citizen of this Country regardless of race, religion, gender or whatever else. Everything in it still holds true today, but we have let too many for too long stray from it. Therefore, the Patriot movement is what it is today, because those of us that are tired of being told that its just the way it is, are done, we refuse to let this go on any longer. We will make sure that this Country becomes once again what she use to be. We are whatever you want to call us, the three percent, constitutionalists, conservatives, or what ever labels you choose. However, the simply truth is we are something a whole lot simpler. We are Americans and we are Proud of it!!! So, in closing rather than asking “What Happened” I instead ask, “What are you going to do about it”

Great post Mike. The Bill of Rights hasn't changed. Same as it has been since 1791. Society has.
